Scandinavian Business Awards 2024

EU Business News- Scandinavian Business Awards 2024 Most Inclusive Children’s School & Day Care Service 2024 Inclusion is one of the most important things in an education setting, as it allows children to feel like they are given a platform where their own needs are taken care of, and their growth and development nurtured. With facilities spread out across Denmark covering a number of age ranges and school years, Basen is both a self-owned and non-profit special education and treatment school that is highly passionate about this encompassing idea of inclusion for all. Supporting children who are vulnerable and at risk, this school recognises that everyone is special in their own way. The children and young people who attend the school and treatment services provided by Basen include individuals with autism, anxiety, depression, OCD, and eating disorders, as well as those who are unable to attend school or face other such difficulties in day-to-day life. Often, the students who now call Basen home feel as though they have been left down in the past, and this can have a knock-on effect on the way that they view and feel about themselves. Basen has made it its mission to change this for good. After all, we all need to be a part of something bigger where we can give and get something back in return. For the majority of children, school does this and does it well. But for those individuals where this is not the case, their personal challenges can get in the way and feelings of isolation can set in. Thus, Basen operates atop the core belief that students being there is simply better than them not being there. When they are there, Basen provides them with a place where they can develop their school abilities and meet like-minded students. Nobody has to be alone with their challenges at Basen, and by building strong bridges to both one another and a happy, prosperous life outside of school, this award-winning service provider is changing lives at every available opportunity. Its method begins with an emphasis on learning that far extends what is usually taught in a classroom environment, instead focusing on understanding oneself and who they really are, mixed in with any necessary treatments that can help to manage or overcome the variety of challenges the students face. With Basen having a far higher employee-to-pupil ratio than almost any other public or special school in the region, parents can remain confident that their child is getting the tailored and personal support that they need to thrive. The norm here is one teacher to every three students, and smaller class numbers compared to average primary school class sizes contribute to a learning environment that is calm and safe in equal measure, a space where students can get all of the help, support, and quality teaching that they need. All of the teaching delivered at Basen is done so to the highest standards, organised in such a way that children who learn differently from others are afforded opportunities to carry out tasks that support their learning in the most beneficial way possible. All classes are structured well, and a clear timetable is followed daily, so students know what to expect ahead of time. In some of the most extreme cases, students are taught on a one-to-one basis, in small groups, or initially in a homeschool environment as part of Basen’s gradual integration programme. Ultimately, this all contributes to Basen’s overarching ethos that people want to contribute to society and feel valued by those around them, and the only thing stopping them from doing so is the bad experiences that they have previously had. In the case of children of school age, their reluctance to do so often stems from a disconnect from their previous school life of which they should have been a part. Where others seek to change students so as to fit them to a mould, Basen greets all with an acceptance of their hopes, dreams, and who they really are. Through a carefully curated programme spanning learning, as well as social, personal, and professional development, Basen provides its students with all of the tools that they need to manage and control their own lives and destinies. For this, we proudly name it as the Most Inclusive Children’s School & Day Care Service 2024, supporting its mission and championing the life-affirming impact that it continues to have on children and young people right across the country.
