EU Business News- Scandinavian Business Awards 2024 Across Sweden, the sight of Broddson AB’s signature yellow elevator sweepers signify the arrival of spring, with its leading range of models all boasting a high capacity and a smooth operation, with environmental thinking included as standard. These sweepers can be powered by diesel, electricity, or a tractor’s hydraulics, and since they are each designed and manufactured in the company’s own premises, along with all of the spare parts and accessories necessary, these eight standard sweepers all possess a shared air of distinction. The story of Broddson AB dates all the way back to 1993, when the company was formed in the industrial area of the small village of Nykyrka, in Sweden’s Motala Municipality. Moving into the centre of this region three years later, Ekenäs to be specific, the company is proud to still call Motala home after more than three decades, albeit in a bigger facility. From this location, development has flourished in the years since, with Broddson continuously solidifying its status as a key player that exists at the forefront of this niche industry. It is Broddson’s guiding vision to keep people in focus and create safe, clean, and sustainable roads and streets for them to use. On the back of this, the company strives to work every day to exceed the expectations of the general public, which it is immensely proud to serve. Quite simply, it does this by manufacturing state-of-the-art machines that constantly set a new gold standard across the industry. Beyond this, there is also the option for clients to purchase machines that are entirely customised, giving them that something extra. Over the years, Broddson has continued to fortify its empire by adding additional leading brands to its product portfolio, beginning with it becoming an agent for Brock back in 2005. It also reached its first major international milestone that same year, delivering 110 sweepers to Kuwait. To this day, Broddson continues to do business in the Middle East, as well as Africa, along with its predominant Best Street Cleaning Equipment Manufacturer 2024 - Sweden Broddson AB is the leading manufacturer of towed elevator street sweepers in Sweden, with its services extending to include offering spare parts, alternate fittings, and a variety of brushes for many of the best-selling brands across this space. Exporting its machines to 20 different countries worldwide, Broddson is also the representative for other leading European brands in the Swedish market, with its encompassing methods making it the country’s ultimate street cleaning solutions provider. May24680 client base, its Nordic neighbours. The company is incredibly proud of the fact that it has gone global, with its reputation today preceding it. A big part of the reason for this is that Broddson cherishes developing in-demand products and nurturing good relationships. 31 years of operating in this sector has taught this team just how essential it is to listen to customers and provide them with the answers to the questions that they hold about how to work more efficiently, economically, and sustainability. Society’s shift towards favouring sustainable approaches has also seen the team here push for this across their supply chain, taking such action as reducing water consumption when sweeping. Besides this, Broddson prides itself on keeping up with trends, both in its native Scandinavia and in the other countries where it possesses a strong presence. Key to it succeeding in this was the business’ change in ownership back in 2010, meaning that it is today owned and operated as a private family business. Now in its fourth local premises due to it needing to upgrade as its operation has continued to grow, the business’ affinity for this region reached a new high a few years ago, when it was named as the 2020 Motala Company of the Year. When it won this award, the company’s management raised a glass to their staff, without whom this triumph would not have been possible. Upon winning this second award, it is only fitting that the distinction of Broddson’s management team should also be drawn attention to. Having worked together for many years, the knowledge of this team not only runs deep, but it also spans a number of diverse areas. Like most good management teams, Broddson’s senior staff do not always see eye to eye, but they certainly respect each other’s views. When they pool their resources together, Broddson’s management, headed up by CEO Mats Hofstam, are capable of achieving great things and pioneering industry-wide change. This was the case 11 years ago, when the company made the difficult and yet highly rewarding decision to cease purchasing from nearby Poland and instead invest in native Swedish suppliers. As a result, the company today uses Swedish subcontractors almost exclusively, ensuring that every stage of production is injected with its signature knowledge. The permeation of this knowledge across the wider brand would not be possible were it not for the entire team, and not just those occupying the senior positions. Mats is always seeking to uplift each of his employees as far as possible, and this award is a fantastic opportunity for him to do just that. This CEO is incredibly happy when his company is recognised for its efforts, as it reflects what he has worked so hard to achieve paying off, this being the building of a family business with a low staff turnover that is always available to offer support. Mats tells us that he uses the Swedish word “stark”, meaning strong, as an acronym to define the approach he seeks to employs across the company. By following the steps of stopping, thinking, acting, reflecting, and communicating, decisions can be made with everyone’s best interests in mind, from fellow employees through to customers. Mats explains, “you cannot act before you stop and think about it, and you also need to reflect and communicate on decisions made.” For Broddson’s CEO, this is the true marker of strength. Leveraging this approach, 2024 has started off well for Broddson, and although it does not anticipate any major changes in the near future, it is always keeping an eye out for new opportunities that will further its impact, as well as continuing to build sweepers so good that their quality is taken for granted. Having recently incorporated fellow manufacturer Miljömaskiner Motala AB into the organisation, the future is brighter than ever for Broddson as it continues to rack up industry awards and stand as a beacon of trust. Building its empire from the ground up, Broddson transcends simply being Sweden’s

Jul22546 EU Business News- Scandinavian Business Awards 2024 rowing Trees Network was founded in 2013 by Lars Heiselberg Vang Jensen and Kim Nielsen, driven by a desire to help protect ground water reservoirs by undertaking afforestation projects across Denmark. Since its inception, the organisation’s mission has been to simplify the donation process for companies and private citizens to support the afforestation projects and have a positive impact on the environment. The organisation’s sponsors hail from a variety of industries and are companies of all sizes. These sponsors all share a common goal, however, which is to contribute to afforestation projects to combat climate change, ensure clean driving water, increase biodiversity, form new recreational areas for public health, and retain water for climate protection. While some sponsors make a one-time donation to the organisation, others are inspired by sustainability agendas such as the 17 UN goals, ESG, CSRD, or the Science Based Target initiative and incorporate regular donations into their daily business activities. “We are a small, but very effective team of only three people and the main reason for our success is flexibility, openness, adaptability, and our ability to make quick decisions,” Kim tells us. “Our sponsors appreciate that we are willing to go that extra mile to support their sustainable actions and activities. The three of us are very focused on our sponsors’ happiness.” Growing Trees Network works with municipalities, churches, water plants, privates, and The Danish Nature Agency to plant trees on land. The organisation is not limited to Denmark and focuses abroad on creating better living conditions for the locals participating in agroforestry, reforesting abandoned farmland, and restoring parts of the Amazon rainforest. Outside of Denmark, Growing Trees Network lends its services to Ecuador, Bolivia, Kenya, and Uganda. The organisation acts as a facilitator for its sponsors in finding the perfect afforestation project for them and helping them to gain exposure and branding for their tree planting initiative via its website, social media platforms, events, and common press releases. Ultimately, Growing Trees Network hopes that its work will inspire sponsors to include their customers, suppliers, and business partners in these initiatives. Following a transparent business model, Growing Trees Network forwards 80% of all tree donations directly to the landowner to cover the costs of establishing the forest, keeping 20% to cover operation costs. This not only means that sponsors know exactly where their donations are going, but also know that their donations are funding positive changes. Most Impactful Afforestation Initiative 2024 – Denmark Afforestation is the introduction of trees to areas that have never or not recently had any tree cover, in an effort to create forests to support ecosystems, and reduce CO2 emissions and the impact of desertification. This process is one of the most effective means of tackling climate change, though it will require a global effort to establish the amount of tree cover required to make a meaningful impact on the rising temperatures. Below, we speak with Kim Nielson, CEO of Growing Trees Network, an organisation dedicated to restoring our environment through afforestation projects. G Contact: Kim Nielsen Phone: +45 3113 0103 Company: Growing Trees Network Web Address: https://www.growingtrees.dk Jun22703 What’s more, the organisation opts to not enter into long-term agreements with its sponsors, instead allowing them to leave at any time they would like. Kim tells us that this is often not the case, however, and many sponsors are so happy that they have stayed with Growing Trees Network for years. Growing Trees Network is the only tree planting organisation that offers its sponsors the opportunity to support afforestation projects across the many landscapes provided, with the added option of participating as one of more sponsors in a project or solely sponsoring all trees within one project. If a company wishes to deduct their CO2 uptake directly in their scopes 1 and 2, they must own the land on which they have established forest, which Growing Trees Network assists its sponsors in their achievements. The organisation places a large emphasis on ensuring that its sponsors feel involved with the community and the projects. It does this through prioritising communication and promoting events in which sponsors, and community can integrate. At the completion of all projects, Growing Trees Network celebrates with sponsors, local community
7. members, schoolchildren, and others planting the last trees by hand, following with light food, cake, and cool drinks. Additionally, Growing Trees Network arranges corporate volunteering events where it challenges employees to plant as many trees as possible within a given timeframe. These types of events are a perfect and unique method of team building that Kim believes brings people closer to the benefits of nature. “It is our mission to be the most trustworthy and professional tree planting organisation, and to make it as easy and secure as possible for everybody to support afforestation projects in Denmark and abroad,” says Kim. “We want to provide sponsors with that feeling of making a difference and taking responsibility.” Since its inception in 2013, Growing Trees Network has planted 3.7 million trees worldwide, achieving the establishment of more than 160 new forests in Denmark, as well as having carried out over 60 afforestation projects in Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Bolivia, and Ecuador. All afforestation projects in Denmark are granted permanent statute, securing sponsors longevity in their donations. Not only that, but the organisation is extremely capable at attracting media attention for its sponsors and afforestation projects, helping to drive value for sponsors. In 2019, Growing Network Trees became a partner in the first ever televised charity show for the climate, called Denmark Plant Trees. The show was hosted by the Danish national broadcasting channel TV2 in collaboration with The Danish Society for Nature Conservation and resulted in funding for 47 new forests around Denmark, project managed by Growing Network Trees. The event went worldwide via international news agencies and was referred to as the first telethon for climate aid in the world. Drawing attention to climate change and its development is a brilliant method of garnering interest in sustainability. In fact, Kim tells us that the impacts of climate change becoming indisputably obvious over the last five years has driven the market of companies and private citizens wanting to donate trees and lesson their own impact. “So far, a majority of our company sponsors have voluntarily donated trees because they want to make a difference to the environment and strengthen their public sustainable profile,” he explains. Until now, 90-95% of Growing Trees Network’s sponsors are companies facing ESG and CSRD requirements being introduced in the coming years by the EU. But moving forward, Kim predicts that the market will be increasingly driven by the voluntary carbon market, where the demand for carbon credits based on afforestation projects is expected to rise significantly. “Third party certification is the key to issuing credible carbon credits,” he says, “and we are currently looking to find the right partner to offer our sponsors carbon credits based on the afforestation projects they donate trees for. This is expected to be in place this autumn.” In terms of the future, Growing Trees Network will be focusing on developing both existing and coming opportunities with its current corporation partners, though Kim tells us that the most important strategic decision of the year-end is finding the right partner to ensure third party validation of carbon credits. This will allow the organisation to offer its sponsors the opportunity to get carbon credits based on the actual forest that is receiving their donation of trees. This will however depend on whether the Danish government ends up introducing a grant to landowners for establishing new forests and at the same time subsidizing them for loss of the value of their land as suggested, the market for carbon credits based on afforestation in Denmark is dead! The basic and most important argument of additionality underlying the voluntary carbon market will no longer be valid. As for the future of afforestation, the emphasis on sustainability being driven by the upcoming EU legislation on ESG and CRSD reporting is pushing the demand for sustainable solutions. Especially in Denmark, with the additional 2030 forest coverage targets emphasising a demand for afforestation projects being implemented, Growing Trees Network will be seeing an increase in public interest. Conclusively, Growing Trees Network is comprised of a small team working hard to make momentous changes in the world. Displaying an unwavering commitment to sustainability, the organisation has allowed its sponsors the space to consider their impact on the environment, giving them the opportunity to make positive contributions. It is for this dedication to combating climate change that Growing Trees Network has been recognised as delivering the Most Impactful Afforestation Initiative 2024 – Denmark. Between The Stadium Course and The Castle Course – each designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. – the club encourages golf lovers to indulge in what can only be distinguished as a luxury golfing endeavour. Each course boasts an exemplary layout and condition, while simultaneously managing to capture the historical beauty of the locale. Initially named Brogård, the estate was once owned by discerning nobility – something that can be seen through the property’s lavish exterior and desirable location. Though no longer deemed as such, the estate still retains an air of royalty that perfectly meshes with the incredible breadth of its surroundings. Characterised by wide fairways, meticulously planned bunkers, and an abundance of water to factor into how you play, this course is able to be played from five different tees, enabling the enjoyment of any skill level. Similarly, The Castle Course boasts the same level of showstopping course design, but captures an entirely unique essence to its predecessor. Though also developed by Robert Trent Jones Jr, this course retains the same level of quality through a shorter course with narrower fairways. Blending natural parks and forestry with one another, The Castle Course introduces an additional level of challenge through its bunkers – despite their relatively small size, they require a far more strategic approach if one hopes to work around them. Truly inspired, both courses leverage the amenities presented by the estate, each standing as a culmination of exceptional golf course design and a love for the area’s natural beauty. Though The Stadium Course and The Castle Course are Bro Hof Slott’s most notable courses, The Putting Course offers an 18hole putting course that spans a whopping 12,000 square meters. Jul22546 EU Business News- Scandinavian Business Awards 2024 s a long-standing tradition in Norway, lobster faming has become a natural part of coastal towns throughout the region. In the 19th century, it was a food best suited to those who struggled to make ends meet, and the direct accessibility made it something of a staple throughout all types of households. However, when the 20th century rolled around, the population of lobster fisheries faced a drastic incline that would have worrying ramifications in the years to come. Due to government regulations failing to meet sustainability requirements, the past 50 years has seen Norway’s wild lobster stock being confronted with extinction, with very few options available to subvert the inevitable. In response to this impending crisis, Norwegian Lobster Farm came to be. Hoping to not only revive the tradition of authentic lobster farming, but also cultivate a programme that would restore the wild lobster population, this award-winning company began to apply its expertise in order to foster tangible change. As detailed by the collective itself – “Norwegian Lobster Farm’s vision is to lead the further development of land-based lobster farming, both nationally and internationally.” From beginning to end, Norwegian Lobster Farm applies an approach that has already contributed to the growth of Norway’s wild lobster populace, all while producing some of the world’s most discerning seafood. This approach is primarily categorised through the company’s worldfirst status as the only land-based lobster farm. Situated on the coast of Norway, Norwegian Lobster Farm balances seafood production with repopulation efforts in order to consistently give back to the world around it. Sustainable, professional, and capable of cultivating highly exclusive products, Norwegian Lobster Farm has spent its tenure impressing the high-end seafood market. EU Business News- Scandinavian Business Awards 2024 Most Dedicated Community Project Manager 2024 (Sweden): Martine Westerlund Norsjö Kommun Martine’s exciting journey in community development started in Sweden, to which she immigrated 14 years ago. The Norsjö Municipality Future Program was initiated to chart the municipality’s future. Through collaboration meetings and citizen participation, a new vision emerged: 'The Best Everyday Life in the World.' The program focused on preventive measures to reverse the depopulation trend of the last twenty years. During Martine’s tenure as process manager for Norsjö Municipality’s vision work in 2018/19, she actively participated in impactful projects promoting community development and engaging the citizens of Norsjö. Her work positively influenced the local population, shaping a better future for the Norsjöbygden region. The term ‘Norsjöbygden’ was coined to be inclusive of both the rural areas of the Municipality and Norsjö town itself. As a process manager, Martine was instrumental in creating Norsjö Municipality's ambitious business strategy, 'The Best Everyday Life in the World'. This strategy, adopted by the municipal council in 2019, focuses on making the Norsjö region an attractive and supportive environment for starting, developing, and running businesses. It emphasizes cooperation and dialogue among businesses, the municipality, authorities, and education providers fostering sustainable growth and a favourable business climate. The vision 'The Best Everyday Life in the World' emerged from extensive dialogue with citizens, with approximately 20% of the population contributing focussing on long-term planning, collaboration, co-creation, population growth and dialogue promoting positive development in the area. Norsjö Municipality was selected as the National Municipality of the Year 2020 by the organization 'Hela Sverige Ska Leva' due to the work with the Future Program. Norsjö Municipality chose to adopt the principles and strategy of 'Service in Collaboration' in its democratic process. The commitment has been significant from the municipality, businesses, associations, and the public. The open citizen dialogue was inclusive, involving rural areas, new arrivals, pensioners, people with disabilities, entrepreneurs, associations, and school children. Based on citizen dialogue, Martine initiated a scrap car campaign and a campaign to find abandoned houses, among other things. The newspaper 'Norran' wrote, 'Norsjö's transparency is exemplary.' The Municipal Service Plan was drawn up based on citizens' dialogue after an extensive consultation round. In the second round, citizens participated in creating an overview plan. Norsjö Municipality was also one of five municipalities nominated to become Sweden's Quality Municipality in 2019. The award goes to the municipality that has best succeeded in promoting democracy, supporting businesses, improving the working environment, and building community. Norsjö is the smallest municipality ever to be nominated. This initiative emerged from Martine’s tenure as a process manager, with 'Hela Sverige Ska Leva' (The Whole of Sweden Should Live) a rural development agency. The 'Service in Collaboration' project in Skellefteå was part of a nationwide project to enhance services in rural areas. Its primary goal was to establish sustainable collaboration models between local development groups and the municipality, ensuring that essential services are accessible to residents, fundamental for both quality of life and local entrepreneurship. In Skellefteå, Martine focused on identifying local needs and opportunities, creating platforms for cooperation among local development groups, businesses, and the municipality. Through co-creation with municipal representatives, she tested new models for multi-level collaboration, aiming to develop a sustainable structure for service planning in rural areas. Her work was integrated into the county's service planning. During the initial stage of the project, she engaged with village development groups, using the World Café model for citizen dialogue. Her ultimate goal was to create a platform that would continue beyond the project's duration. Remarkably, among the nine process managers across eleven municipalities who participated in similar projects, Martine’s collaboration platform stood out as the sole model created. A knowledge database was compiled from materials generated by other process managers. In 2023, both Skellefteå and Norsjö municipalities began implementing Martine’s internal collaboration platform model to foster development and collaboration across various departments within the municipalities for future planning. Notably, for Skellefteå, this initiative played a pivotal role in their growth and development, particularly with the establishment of Northvolt mega battery factory. As part of Martine’s own initiative, she launched 'Multinations Norsjö,' focusing on labour market immigration and integration. Subsequently, this project received funding from LEADER, and the Swedish Agency for Agriculture. Its primary objective to streamline and expedite the process for individuals who wish to relocate to Norsjö. Through coordinated efforts and an active forum, 'Multinations Norsjö' provides new residents with essential information, support, and services .As a direct result 68 people moved to Norsjö. Martine had the opportunity to share the principles of 'Multinations' with Övertorneå business department in Norrbotten. Successful implementation of Övertorneå version underscores the approach’s positive impact. Martine also received International Hospitality & Travel Awards “Lodge of the year in Sweden” in 2020 & 2022 for exceptional public relation skills.
