13. As expressed by Emerald itself – “Today, northern European countries are far more confident in communicating in English compared to the rest of the continent. This is mainly due to early age exposure and the approach to language learning. In France, children begin to learn English in their early teens, which is probably the worst moment as they are going through hormonal changes, and self-confidence is not at its best. The current teaching process is more adapted to ancient Latin or Greek, being mainly focused on the acquisition of knowledge rather than active communication.” As a result of this generalised approach to what is arguably an essential skill, Emerald sought to develop methods that, at their heart, explored English as a collaborative opportunity, as opposed to a skill that’s taught on a knowledgeonly level. Put simply, Emerald is a pioneer of teaching French people how to both learn English and apply it to their business’ communicative efforts. Be it conversations between colleagues, or interactions with international clients, the collective prides itself on encouraging people to step out of their boxes and empower themselves with the confidence to learn English. With such a passionate team leading it, and a drive to define itself as the most dependable entity within its field, Emerald has more than earned itself the title of English Language School of the Year – Occitania. To close, we’d like to share some words from Margaret Kent of Emerald Language Learning – “This award means a lot to us, and I would like to dedicate it to the team. Emerald would not be where we are today without the commitment and dedication of each one of you! So thank you guys!”
