10 EU BUSINESS NEWS / Q1 2021 , Nov20031 Companies are Poorly Prepared for Digital Communication Renowned speaker, coach and expert for digital communication, Tilman Billing, tells us more about his work and howhe is increasingly in demand following the Covid crisis. He interviewed Angela Merkel for ARD; today he trains managers for appearances on the most important German TV programs. He analysed board members for ZDF; now he coaches them for speeches and presentations. As an investigative journalist, he battled corporations, but for many years now he manages crisis PR for them. He wrote important lectures for FAZ & Co; nowadays he inspires his audience as a speaker. The political scientist, Germanist and communication scientist, Tilman Billing, is a top executive coach, media trainer, consultant for crisis communication and keynote speaker. Founded in 2005, Tilman Billing Kommunikation has had 15 successful years to date in the following four business areas: coaching top-level executives to give convincing talks, inspiring speeches and excellent presentations; crisis PR and crisis communications management for successful start-ups, SMEs and larger corporations like many DAX companies; training managers for media appearances and for excellent communication in video calls and conferences; in-demand moderator and sought-after keynote speaker for business events. The founder and CEO, Tilman Billing, has core values steeped in credibility, trust and innovation and lives by the three key principles. He tells us about these in greater details. “The most important thing is to see everything through the eyes of the customer,” he begins. “That is why we never deliver average and mass-produced goods, but are known for our individual, tailor-made solutions.” “It doesn't matter whether a customer is a start-up, a hidden champion or a global corporation, but that everyone deserves the best possible performance.” “Most companies are poorly prepared for the digital age of communication.” This last point has proven itself of utmost importance recently in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. As companies are clambering for an online presence it appears that the digital age has begun inexorably. In these times Tilman has been more in demand than ever as an expert for webinars, online meetings and presentations. “Most companies in Germany and other European countries are poorly prepared for this,” he explains. “Many managers present themselves very unprofessionally in online conferences, presentations and live streams. That is a big chance for us. The need for training and coaching is enormous. And even when Covid-19 is over. From now on, every manager must be able to present themselves professionally online.” Tilman has a long history of experience in his areas of expertise, having worked as a TV reporter and TV director in Paris, Oslo, Amsterdam, Vienna and Istanbul. As a student, he went to high school in the United States and later toured numerous countries in the Middle East and Asia. This gives Tilman Billing a global view. In addition to this, he has studied political science which enables him to penetrate political and economic contexts well. Tilman is a former student of German studies, so he masters the most effective tools in rhetoric and storytelling. He is also familiar with communication science, therefore he analyses how successful people, companies and NGOs communicate with each other. Finally, he is knowledgeable about theatre, film and television studies so he knows the tricks of the trade, like how people appear convincing in front of an audience or a camera. So far, Tilman has taught at the Hasso Plattner Institute at the University of Potsdam, at the University of Applied Sciences Konstanz, Academy for Business Executives in Überlingen, Haufe Academy, Management Circle and at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. He has also interviewed Merkel, Scholz et al. so it is safe to say that he is an expert in his field. “Agility and innovation have become increasingly more and more important over the last 2-3 years, especially since the Covid-19 crisis,” he says. “We support our customers to communicate with credibility, authenticity and persuasiveness. This is our mission and passion.” Company: Tilman Billing Kommunikation Contact: Constanze Baier (office manager)
