received no help from the government. The business owes its existence to the loyalty of its customers, which enabled it to survive the two years of the pandemic. Some customers had known Charly for years when he worked in other bike shops, whilst others were new customers who chose to put their trust in his products. Another challenge arose when, in 2023, Charly suffered from a heart attack and was unable to fully open the shop for six weeks. He shares, “We had a lot of customers who came by just to see how I was and support me. It confirmed to me that we want to be more than just an ordinary shop and that the special relationship we have with our customers is what makes us different.” For its exceptional accomplishments over the last four years, Charly’s Bike Store has received the title of Best eBike Retailer, Switzerland, in the European Enterprise Awards 2023. In the years to come, the business plans to contribute towards the democratisation of the hydrogen-powered eBike by continuing to offer reasonable prices and 12-month 0% finance options. It also hopes to increase the size of the shop, hiring more like-minded people to support this growth.
