European CEO of the Year Awards 2024

Jul22493 35. Ambitious and driven, Kristian Bjerg has developed a unique digital offering aimed at promoting wellbeing in the workplace. In the wake of being recognised in the European CEO of the Year Awards, we speak to Kristian to find out more about his success and how he plans to roll out his products to the global market. It’s no surprise to learn that digitalisation has led to more sedentary work and increased inactivity among both children and adults, and extensive research indicates that this is detrimental to both our physical and mental health. Innovative Danish company, OfficeFit A/S (OfficeFit) has the answer, however, and works to develop health technologies to promote an active and energetic culture. Based on its many years of experience, evaluations, and collaborations with customers, engineers, designers, software developers, and universities, OfficeFit has developed an Internet of Things (IoT) device named GetUpp Assist along with an accompanying app called GetUpp App, which promotes movement and health through behavioural design. “The need for and development of digital health solutions is a macro trend that influences the societal and economic aspects of our lifestyle,” elaborates Kristian Bjerg, the firm’s Chief Executive Officer. “Our app and IoT device help break sedentary habits and introduces vital variation and movement into an otherwise sedentary workday. The GetUpp App also helps create a company community and can bring employees together through challenges and fun events centred around movement. “This supports the company’s and employees’ identity, whether they are physically present at the company or working from home. The value for our customers includes lower absenteeism and higher productivity.” Kristian himself has many years of operational experience from being in the Danish intelligence service, where he gained extensive experience with people and their motivations, and which has ultimately provided him with a deep knowledge of the various psychological aspects of building teams and motivating them to achieve results. As he was involved in founding OfficeFit, which started in his garage, Kristian has always been responsible for the daily management and development of the company in close cooperation with the firm’s board and its investors. “It is about listening to the needs and the market, and then developing solutions tailored to a constantly changing market,” Kristian continues, explaining how he founds, builds, and develops relationships with clients. “We develop based on the motto “perfection is the enemy of progress”. This means that we develop and test with our customers, then adjust and launch. We never develop a finished solution and then launch it, as we would not receive our customers’ feedback and risk developing something that does not meet market needs.” This strong relationship with customers is built through trust and involvement, which makes them eager to participate in development for the overall benefit of society, and Kristian is committed to continually focusing on creating financial and human value for both the company and its customers. With a vision to transform the increasing inactive and sedentary behaviour of people into an active and energetic culture of movement, Kristian has a strategy to scale his solution through strategic partnerships in other countries, and he is currently in the process of writing the playbook for international scaling. As a visionary leader, he not only drives the organisation towards profit but also creates a workplace that is sustainable, innovative, and human-centred – something that he believes requires a balance between being strategic and empathetic, as well as the ability to adapt to a constantly changing world. His keen focus on bringing people together is not only reflected in the product, but also in the way Kristian leads the firm as CEO. “Movement should be for everyone, which is why our digital solution is highly scalable and focuses on creating a community through movement,” he continues. “This is why, in our company, I only hire employees who have a “we” approach rather than an “I” approach. I place great emphasis on involving employees in strategic work, which leads to them taking ownership.” Kristian is dedicated to continuously working on inspiring and motivating employees towards common goals, and this vision is forward-looking, reflecting both the company’s ambitions and its responsibilities to society. Decision-making processes are quick and agile, with flat hierarchies that allow for faster action, where mistakes are viewed as learning opportunities. Recently, in recognition of his leadership style and its subsequent success, Kristian was bestowed with the prestigious title of Most Innovative Health Technology Leader 2024 (Denmark) in the European CEO of the Year Awards. Now, his sights are firmly fixed on the future and bringing his innovative health technology to other nearby markets and strategic partnerships in order to continue uniting employees whilst championing wellbeing at work.
