The teamat BORGinsole are different. Using the latest andmost sophisticated technologies available, the teamhave transformed the field of podiatry. We take a closer look at the firm in the light of the team’s remarkable double- achievement in this year’s Benelux Enterprise Awards. Aug20091 2006 saw the beginning of an impossible mission – to start up a business that focused exclusively on the production of 3D podiatric insoles. In less than 15 years, it has become an extraordinary success, offering unique solutions that are used in a variety of situations by people ranging from the world’s most able athletes to those who’s footwear simply requires a little more attention. The field of podiatry has been revolutionized by the work of BORGinsole. The team, led by Paul Borgions and Gratienne Sioncke, spent two years engrossed in detailed research and development before creating a method for producing a functional insole. What sets BORGinsole’s solution apart is the way in which elements of this insole are defined by a digital model of a person’s foot. A deformed model is obtained, and from this a functional insole can be produced which controls the foot in desired phases of the gait. It means every product is custom designed to fit the needs of the individual perfectly. The development of this innovative insole has not been the only requirement of the new company. The team have had to undertake many developments in order to obtain a reliable insole each and every time. Since 2006, the team have made major steps that have had an incredible impact on the podiatric sector. With funding from Flanders Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the team were able to develop a proprietary 3D foot scan system and a 3D program to design the insoles and confirm the patient’s description. 2016 saw the team celebrate a decade of business with the completion of their BORGinsole 3D Application project. This was achieved with funding from Flanders Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and has allowed the team to bring an innovative and reliable 3D application based on algorithms to design the patented insoles.
