Balkan Enterprise Awards 2018
EU BUSINESS NEWS / 2018 Balkan Enterprise Awards 5 , Sigma d.o.o. Kula Best Automatic Dosing Systems Manufacturer 2018 Sigma ltd fromKula, Serbia, in cooperationwith a teamof PhDs of the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy in Belgrade and the Faculty of Sciences, Department of Chemistry in Novi Sad has developed and patented a technology called HLOROGEN ® designed to produce diluted solutions of sodium hypochlorite. As we have recently recognised the firm and its innovative solution in this year’s Balkan Enterprise Awards, we profiled it and showcased its unique flagship offering. – at the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Serbia) are made of working and spare pumps, which automatically start in case the working pumps stop. Sigma dosing systems meet all requirements for quality and reliable water chlorination with the ability to store all data and values of the chlorination. Chlorination with ADS may be done according to the flow and to the residual. Chlorination according flow is used when biochemical quality of raw water is stable (subterranean, well water), and the consumption is changing in course of time. It is most commonly used during “basic chlorination” , when raw water comes into the water supply from several directions or wells, and, as necessary, the firm adjusts its production to meet clients’ needs. Chlorination according to residual is applied when the changes in raw water are not big, and when these changes are linear, and when the quality can also be changed (i.e., the biochemical composition of water). It is most commonly used during “corrective chlorination”, when the raw water comes from the water supply ready-made and partially primarily chlorinated. Corrective chlorination has the task to correct the residual water due to variable biochemical composition of water and partly due to changes in the flow and to maintain it at a given level. As part of the further improvement of technology for water disinfection company Sigma developed a new device that also, at the place of consumption, in a completely safe way from salt and water, with the help of electrical energy, produces a mixed disinfectant. The mixed disinfectant is a combination of equivalent chlorine (in the form of hypochlorous acid (HClO) and hypochlorous ions (ClO)), and chlorine dioxide. The newly developed device is named OksiHLOROGEN ® . The Sigma company, in cooperation with a team of PhDs of the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy in Belgrade and the Faculty of Sciences, Department of Chemistry, Section of Chemical Technology and Environmental Protection has developed the OksiHLOROGEN ® device for production of mixed disinfectant, as a logical continuation of the vision and mission of Sigma, to solve specific problems of disinfection of water in the Pannonian basin and the waters that contain humic substances. It is not recommended to disinfect water of this quality with conventional disinfectants, since that leads to the formation of organic chloride compounds, such as trichloro-methane (THM), which are toxic to the health of people, and chloroform is even possibly carcinogenic. Looking ahead, Sigma has many exciting plans ahead as it seeks to expand internationally and provide its award-winning, innovative solutions to an even wider range of clients over the years to come. BAL18001 Sigma’s core product offering, the HLOROGEN ® device, produces diluted solutions of sodium hypochlorite (NaClO), the concentration of ~ 1% of equivalent chlorine; (CAS No: 7681-52-9), at the place of consumption by electrolysis from an aqueous saline solution (NaCl). As such, the solution meets all the safety requirements in accordance with national and international legislative practice in the field of disinfection of water and of environmental protection. Such plants with a completely safe technology are recommended by EU directives as an alternative to chlorine gas. According to the Dangerous Substances Directive 67/548/EEC and subsequent amendments of the Dangerous Preparations Directive 88/379/ EEC and the classification according to the CLP/GHS directives, solution of sodium hypochlorite in concentrations of less than 5% is considered to be harmless, and as such Sigma’s unique solution is perfectly safe and users can rest assured that they are utilising a truly innovative and safe machine. Alongside its work developing this solution, Sigma is also involved in engineering and installation of the automatic dosing of disinfectants in water.
